A Must-Try Island Tradition
The charming fishing village of Anse La Raye comes alive every Friday evening with its popular fish fry. Along the waterfront, vendors serve freshly grilled seafood, local Creole dishes, and refreshing island drinks. Live music and the sounds of the sea create a relaxed and welcoming atmosphere for visitors and locals alike. This authentic community event offers a delicious and cultural experience that reflects the true spirit of Saint Lucia.
The village atmosphere
Anse La Raye is a small fishing village shaped by the sea and generations of fishermen. Colourful houses line the narrow coastal road, boats rest along the shore, and daily life unfolds slowly, in a rhythm that feels unchanged over time.
Friday Night Fish Fry
Held on the last Friday of every month, the Fish Fry turns the village into a lively open-air gathering. Grills line the streets, music fills the air and people move between food stalls, eating, dancing and socialising late into the night.
What you’ll eat
Seafood is prepared fresh, often just hours after being caught. Snapper, mahi-mahi and lobster (in season) are grilled or fried and served with local sides like breadfruit, rice and fried plantains, finished with bold Creole seasonings.
A local tradition
What began as fishermen sharing their catch has grown into a monthly gathering that reflects the island’s food culture and strong community spirit. It remains informal, authentic and rooted in local life.
